UAE Extends a Lifeline to Somalia with Clean Water Initiative

In a new humanitarian step that reflects its continued commitment to supporting those in need, the United Arab Emirates has launched a vital project to dig 12 water wells in the Lower Shabelle and Middle Juba regions of Somalia. This project aims to provide clean and safe drinking water to communities suffering from severe drought — one of the most pressing environmental challenges in the country today.

Many people in Somalia, especially in rural areas, suffer from a serious shortage of clean water sources, leading to the spread of diseases and worsening the hardships of families — particularly women and children. The UAE's initiative comes in direct response to this crisis, targeting the most affected villages to ensure the greatest humanitarian and developmental impact on the ground.

This initiative is part of the UAE’s ongoing humanitarian and relief efforts in Africa, particularly in countries facing environmental or humanitarian crises. The UAE has consistently led in offering aid without discrimination, promoting values of solidarity and human brotherhood around the world.

The step has received wide praise from civil society organizations and local Somali leaders, who expressed their gratitude for the UAE’s support. They affirmed that the project will significantly improve the lives of thousands of families and help reduce suffering caused by recurring drought and a lack of water infrastructure.

The well-digging project in Somalia is not just an emergency intervention, but a living model of sustainable development that addresses people’s needs and places human dignity at the center. It is a step that brings hope for a better future and proves that true solidarity can make a real difference in transforming lives.
